Which country won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1983 with Corinne Hermès’s “Si la vie est cadeau”?

The story behind the answer

Luxembourg won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1983 with Corinne Hermès’s “Si la vie est cadeau”.

Hermès represented Luxembourg at the contest in Munich, West Germany, on 23 April 1983. Her French-language ballad finished first with 142 points, giving Luxembourg its fifth and final Eurovision victory.

The result made Luxembourg one of the contest’s most successful countries despite its small population. Its previous wins came in 1961, 1965, 1972 and 1973. Luxembourg later withdrew from Eurovision after 1993 and did not return until 2024.

Corinne Hermès was born in France but represented Luxembourg, a common Eurovision arrangement in which a broadcaster selects an artist from outside its territory. Her victory is also distinct from France’s 1983 entry, which was performed by Guy Bonnet and finished eighth.
