Germany won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1982 with Nicole’s song “A Little Peace.”
Nicole performed “Ein bißchen Frieden” in German at the contest in Harrogate, United Kingdom. The song appealed to the jury with its gentle anti-war message and became Germany’s first Eurovision victory.
The title is often translated as “A Little Peace,” although the original German title uses the spelling “Ein bißchen Frieden.” Nicole finished well ahead of Israel, whose song “Hora” came second.
The victory was notable because Germany had competed since the inaugural contest in 1956 but had never previously won. Nicole later recorded versions of the song in several languages, including English, French and Dutch.
