Austria won the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with JJ’s song “Wasted Love.” JJ, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, represented Austria at the final in Basel, Switzerland.
“Wasted Love” won the contest with 436 points, combining jury and public voting. The performance was notable for JJ’s countertenor vocals and an electronic pop arrangement, helping Austria secure its third Eurovision victory.
Austria’s earlier wins came in 1966, when Udo Jürgens performed “Merci, Chérie,” and in 2014, when Conchita Wurst won with “Rise Like a Phoenix.” The 2025 result therefore extended Austria’s record to three victories across different eras of the competition.
The 2025 contest was hosted by Switzerland after Nemo’s 2024 win with “The Code.” A likely mix-up is Estonia’s 2025 entry “Espresso Macchiato,” which was a prominent finalist but did not win. Austria and JJ were the official winners.
