Which country won the 1954 FIFA World Cup final, defeating Hungary 3–2?

The story behind the answer

West Germany won the 1954 FIFA World Cup final by defeating Hungary 3–2.

The final was played on 4 July 1954 at Wankdorf Stadium in Bern, Switzerland. Hungary were heavily favored after going unbeaten for several years and defeating West Germany 8–3 in the group stage. Hungary led 2–0 after eight minutes, but West Germany equalized before halftime.

Helmut Rahn scored the winning goal in the 84th minute, completing what became known as the “Miracle of Bern.” The result gave West Germany its first World Cup title and remains one of the tournament’s most famous comebacks.

A common mix-up is confusing the 1954 final with the 1958 final, when Brazil won its first championship. Hungary did not win the 1954 tournament despite being the highest-scoring team and reaching the final.
