Germany won Eurovision 2010 with Lena’s song “Satellite.”
The 2010 contest was held at the Telenor Arena in Bærum, near Oslo, Norway, after Norway’s 2009 victory. Lena Meyer-Landrut performed “Satellite,” a song written by Julie Frost and John Gordon. Germany won with 246 points, ahead of Turkey and Romania.
Lena’s victory was Germany’s first Eurovision win since 1982. It was also the first German victory after reunification, although Germany had participated as a unified country since 1991. Her relaxed performance and the song’s catchy pop arrangement made the entry widely recognisable across Europe.
“Satellite” is sometimes confused with Lena’s 2011 return to Eurovision, when she performed “Taken by a Stranger” for Germany. That later entry did not win. The 2010 victory remains the relevant result for “Satellite.”
