Which country won Eurovision 1958 with André Claveau’s “Dors, mon amour”?

The story behind the answer

France won Eurovision 1958 with André Claveau’s “Dors, mon amour.”

The third Eurovision Song Contest was held on 12 March 1958 at the AVRO Studios in Hilversum, Netherlands. French singer André Claveau performed “Dors, mon amour,” a French-language chanson written by Pierre Delanoë and Hubert Giraud. France finished first with 27 points.

The 1958 contest marked an early expansion of Eurovision’s musical identity beyond the inaugural Swiss event. The format still featured a single final, and the voting system awarded points from national juries. Claveau’s win gave France its first Eurovision victory.

The result is sometimes confused with France’s 1960 win by Jacqueline Boyer or its 1962 win by Isabelle Aubret. Those were separate French victories. “Dors, mon amour” belongs specifically to André Claveau and the 1958 contest.
