The Secret Agent is a Brazilian film directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho. Wagner Moura won Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his performance in the film, giving Brazil recognition in both an international-film category and a major acting category.
The nominees in the non-English-language race represented France, South Korea, Norway, Spain, and Tunisia alongside Brazil. The category is based on the film’s language and international classification rather than the nationality of every cast member or crew member.
The Secret Agent also competed in the drama film category. Its country is sometimes confused with Norway because Sentimental Value represented Norway, but those were separate films in the same overall ceremony.
