Ryder Cup Europe announced France as the winning bid on May 17, 2011. The French proposal centered on Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, southwest of Paris, and beat competing bids from Germany, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands. Sweden had initially expressed interest but withdrew before the final bidding stage.

The 42nd Ryder Cup was played from September 28–30, 2018, at Le Golf National’s Albatros Course in Guyancourt. It was only the second Ryder Cup held in continental Europe, following the 1997 competition in Spain. The event ended with Europe defeating the United States 17½–10½ under captain Thomas Bjørn.
