Canada launched the television adaptation called Dragons' Den in 2006.
The Canadian series is a national version of the international business-pitch format. Canadian entrepreneurs present their companies to a panel of investors, who question them about sales, valuation, competition and growth before deciding whether to make an offer.
Although the title is shared with the British programme, the Canadian edition has its own presenters, Dragons, production history and business environment. Its pitches therefore reflect Canadian companies and market conditions rather than simply repeating the British series.
The 2006 launch is sometimes mixed up with the American version, Shark Tank, which premiered in the United States in 2009. Both programmes descend from the same broad format, but they are separate national adaptations.
