Which country is the smallest sovereign state in the Caribbean that uses the East Caribbean dollar?
Answer
Saint Kitts and Nevis
Answer
Saint Kitts and Nevis
Saint Kitts and Nevis is the smallest sovereign state in the Caribbean that uses the East Caribbean dollar.
The federation consists of Saint Kitts and Nevis and covers about 261 square kilometres. It is a member of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, whose members use the East Caribbean dollar.
The currency has been issued by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank since 1983 and is pegged to the United States dollar. Saint Kitts and Nevis also uses English as its official language and has Basseterre as its capital.
The wording matters because the East Caribbean dollar is shared by several independent countries and one British overseas territory. Among the sovereign participating states, Saint Kitts and Nevis has the smallest area. The answer is not Barbados, which uses the Barbadian dollar.
