Which small island country has Majuro as its capital?
Answer
Marshall Islands
Answer
Marshall Islands
The Marshall Islands is the small island country whose capital is Majuro. Majuro is an atoll made up of many low-lying islets arranged around a lagoon in the central Pacific Ocean.
Majuro is both the national capital and the country’s principal population, administrative and economic centre. The capital occupies a narrow strip of land, so roads, buildings and settlements are concentrated along the atoll’s long, curved chain of islets. Delap, Uliga and Djarrit are among its best-known urban areas.
The Marshall Islands consists of 29 atolls and five isolated islands. These formations are scattered across a large ocean area despite the country’s small landmass. Their low elevation makes the nation particularly exposed to coastal flooding, storms and the effects of sea-level rise.
The islands were administered by several foreign powers before becoming independent in 1986 under a Compact of Free Association with the United States. The country uses the United States dollar and has a parliamentary government.
