Eswatini is the smallest country in the world with two official capitals.
Mbabane serves as the administrative capital, while Lobamba is the royal and legislative capital. The arrangement reflects the country’s modern government alongside its traditional monarchy and royal institutions.
Eswatini’s system differs from South Africa’s three-capital arrangement and Bolivia’s constitutional designation of Sucre with La Paz as the seat of government. Those countries are much larger and have different historical structures.
Eswatini is a landlocked kingdom between South Africa and Mozambique. Its name changed from Swaziland to Eswatini in 2018, but the two-capital structure remained in place.
