Which country is the smallest doubly landlocked country in the world?
Answer
Liechtenstein
Answer
Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is the world's smallest doubly landlocked country, meaning every country bordering it is also landlocked.
The Alpine microstate is bordered by Switzerland to the west and Austria to the east. Because neither neighbour has a coastline, reaching the sea from Liechtenstein requires crossing at least two international borders.
Liechtenstein covers roughly 160 square kilometres and lies in the Rhine valley beneath the Alps. It is a constitutional monarchy headed by the Prince of Liechtenstein, rather than a republic.
Uzbekistan is the only other doubly landlocked country. Liechtenstein is smaller than Uzbekistan and is the only doubly landlocked country in Europe, while Andorra and Luxembourg are landlocked but not doubly landlocked.
