Egypt is the primary setting of Assassin's Creed Origins.
The game takes place during the first century BCE, mainly in Ptolemaic Egypt. Players explore locations such as Alexandria, Memphis, Cyrene, and the Giza plateau while following Bayek of Siwa, a Medjay who becomes involved in the origins of the Hidden Ones.
Origins depicts a period of political conflict involving Cleopatra, Ptolemy XIII, and Julius Caesar. Its story explains how the Hidden Ones formed, providing the historical foundation for the Assassin Brotherhood seen in later games.
The game is sometimes described simply as being set in Rome because Caesar appears in the story, but Egypt remains the main country and geographic focus. Origins also marked a major shift toward role-playing-game systems, including levels, loot, and dialogue choices.
