Answer
Tanzania
Answer
Tanzania
Which country is home to Mount Kilimanjaro? Tanzania. The mountain rises in northern Tanzania near the Kenyan border and is Africa’s highest mountain.
Kilimanjaro is a massive dormant stratovolcano made up of three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Uhuru Peak, on Kibo’s crater rim, reaches about 5,895 metres above sea level. Because it rises dramatically from the surrounding plains, it is also regarded as the world’s highest free-standing mountain.
The mountain is often associated with Kenya because its snow-capped summit is famously visible from parts of Kenya, including Amboseli National Park. However, the international boundary places Kilimanjaro entirely in Tanzania. The surrounding mountain and forest zones are protected within Kilimanjaro National Park.
Kilimanjaro’s highest cone, Kibo, is dormant rather than extinct, while Mawenzi and Shira are considered extinct. Hans Meyer and Ludwig Purtscheller made the first recorded ascent to the summit in 1889. Today, the mountain is one of the Seven Summits and a major trekking destination.
