Which country hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 after winning in 2014?

The story behind the answer

Austria hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 after winning the 2014 contest.

The 2015 competition took place in Vienna, Austria, with the final held on 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle. Austria earned hosting rights because Conchita Wurst had won the 2014 contest in Copenhagen with “Rise Like a Phoenix.”

The 2015 edition was the 60th Eurovision Song Contest. Australia was invited to participate directly in the final as a special guest, marking its first appearance in the competition. Australia later became a regular participant after joining the semi-final system.

Sweden won the 2015 final with Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes.” Russia finished second and Italy third. Austria, despite being the host country and reigning winner, finished last in the final with zero points, sharing that position with Germany.

Hosting is normally awarded to the previous year’s winning broadcaster, although practical considerations can influence the choice of city and venue. Vienna was selected for the 2015 event after Austria’s victory.
