Which country has hosted the Summer Olympics the most times?
Answer
United States
Answer
United States
The United States has hosted the Summer Olympics more times than any other country. American cities have staged four completed Summer Games: St. Louis in 1904, Los Angeles in 1932 and 1984, and Atlanta in 1996.
The first American edition took place at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis. Los Angeles later became the only U.S. city to host the Summer Olympics twice, first during the difficult economic climate of 1932 and again in 1984. Atlanta hosted the centennial Games in 1996.
Los Angeles is scheduled to host the 2028 Summer Olympics, which will give the United States five Summer Games in total once that edition is held. The country has also hosted Winter Olympics, but those are counted separately from the Summer Games.
Another common mistake is counting cities rather than countries. The United Kingdom has hosted London 1908, 1948 and 2012, while France has hosted Paris 1900, 1924 and 2024. Both remain behind the U.S. total.
