Which country does record-breaking women's golfer Annika Sörenstam come from?

The story behind the answer

Which country does record-breaking women’s golfer Annika Sörenstam come from? She comes from Sweden. Sörenstam was born in Bro, near Stockholm, on 9 October 1970, and represented Sweden during her amateur career.

Before becoming a global golf star, Sörenstam was an accomplished all-around athlete. She played tennis and football and was such a strong skier that a Swedish national-team coach suggested her family move north to support her development. Her family eventually focused on golf, and she began sharing clubs with her younger sister, Charlotta.

Sörenstam joined Sweden’s national golf team and won the individual competition at the 1992 Espirito Santo Trophy. She later became one of the most successful players in women’s golf, winning 72 official LPGA Tour events and 10 major championships. In 2003, she completed the modern career Grand Slam.

Although she later became a dual citizen of Sweden and the United States and lives in Florida, her sporting nationality and origins remain Swedish. She also represented Europe in the Solheim Cup, a team competition rather than a national tournament.
