Which country contains Yellowstone National Park, the world’s first national park?
Answer
United States
Answer
United States
The United States contains Yellowstone National Park, established as the world’s first national park.
Yellowstone was created by an act of the United States Congress and signed by President Ulysses S. Grant on 1 March 1872. The park protects a vast volcanic landscape in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, with most of its area in northwestern Wyoming.
It is famous for geothermal features such as Old Faithful, the Grand Prismatic Spring and the Norris Geyser Basin. Yellowstone sits above a volcanic hotspot and contains one of the largest active volcanic systems in North America, although the park is managed primarily for conservation and public enjoyment.
Yellowstone is sometimes described as being entirely in Wyoming, but its boundaries cross three states. Its creation helped establish the national-park model later adopted in many countries. Australia’s Royal National Park, founded in 1879, was the second national park created after Yellowstone.
