Which console launched Mario Kart World on June 5, 2025?

Mario Kart World launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.

The game was designed as a showcase title for Nintendo’s new console and was available at launch in most regions. Its larger world, 24-racer events, and expanded driving mechanics were built around the Switch 2’s hardware.

Mario Kart World was first prototyped for the original Nintendo Switch, but development later moved to Switch 2. The change gave Nintendo’s developers more room to support an open-world environment and large races.

A common mix-up is calling the system simply “Nintendo Switch.” Mario Kart World is a Switch 2 game and was not released for the original Switch. The console’s launch also distinguished the game from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which remains an original Switch title.
