Which composer wrote the music for Disney’s 2017 film Beauty and the Beast?

Alan Menken wrote the music for Disney’s 2017 film Beauty and the Beast.

Menken also composed the music for Disney’s 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast, making him the musical link between the two films. For the live-action version, he adapted the familiar songs and wrote new material with lyricist Tim Rice.

The returning songs include “Belle,” “Gaston,” “Be Our Guest,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” New songs such as “Evermore,” “Days in the Sun,” and “How Does a Moment Last Forever” expand the characters’ inner lives and provide material suited to a longer live-action production.

Menken is one of Disney’s most important film composers. His collaborations with lyricists Howard Ashman, Tim Rice, and Stephen Schwartz produced music for several major animated and musical films.
