Tesla’s market capitalization passed $1 trillion after a major 2021 electric-vehicle order from Hertz.
Tesla’s valuation rose above $1 trillion in October 2021 after Hertz announced an order for 100,000 Tesla vehicles. The announcement reinforced investor confidence in Tesla’s position in the rapidly expanding electric-vehicle market.
Tesla was not the first automaker to reach the trillion-dollar level, but it became one of a small group of companies to do so. Its market value reflected expectations about future vehicle sales, battery technology, software, charging infrastructure, and potential autonomous-driving revenue.
The Hertz order was widely reported as a major commercial endorsement, although large fleet orders do not by themselves determine a company’s valuation. Tesla’s share price also responds to production figures, deliveries, profitability, competition, and broader interest-rate conditions.
