Tesla’s market capitalization first exceeded $1 trillion in October 2021 during a major surge in its share price.
Tesla crossed the threshold after Hertz announced an order for 100,000 electric vehicles. The announcement helped push Tesla’s stock higher, although the company’s valuation was also supported by rising vehicle deliveries, expanding production, and investor enthusiasm for electric transportation.
At the time, Tesla became one of a small number of publicly traded companies valued above $1 trillion. Its market capitalization was much larger than that of traditional automakers, even though established manufacturers produced more vehicles.
Tesla was founded in 2003 and is associated with electric cars such as the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. Its valuation remains sensitive to vehicle demand, production goals, competition, and expectations about autonomous driving and energy storage.
