Apple was the first company to exceed a $1 trillion market capitalization in the United States during intraday trading.
Apple crossed the threshold on August 2, 2018, while U.S. stock markets were open. The share-price increase pushed the value of Apple’s outstanding shares above $1 trillion before the trading day ended, establishing a widely reported corporate valuation record.
The company’s achievement followed a long transformation from a personal-computer maker into a global consumer-technology and services company. The iPhone became its central product, while the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, and other services added recurring activity around Apple devices.
Intraday records differ from closing records because share prices fluctuate throughout a session. A company may cross a market-cap level temporarily and finish below it. Market capitalization itself is also different from enterprise value, which includes debt and subtracts certain cash holdings when assessing a company’s total operating value.
