Apple was the first publicly traded company to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization during trading, on January 3, 2022.
The milestone was reached briefly when Apple’s share price touched the level needed to value all outstanding shares at approximately $3 trillion. The stock later fell back, so the company did not finish that session above the threshold.
Apple’s valuation was supported by the continuing strength of the iPhone, its expanding services division, and investor confidence in its product ecosystem. Market capitalization can move by billions of dollars in minutes because it depends on the share price.
This distinction between reaching a value intraday and closing above it is important. A company may touch a market-cap milestone during a session without ending the day at that valuation.
