Alphabet reached a US$1 trillion market capitalization in January 2020 after Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft.
Alphabet crossed the milestone on January 16, 2020. Alphabet is the parent company created in 2015 when Google reorganized its corporate structure. Google remained Alphabet’s largest and best-known business, while the parent company also grouped several other ventures and operations.
The milestone is sometimes attributed simply to Google because Google’s search engine, advertising business, Android, and YouTube dominate public recognition of the group. However, the publicly traded company whose market capitalization was being measured was Alphabet Inc.
Alphabet was the fourth US company to reach the trillion-dollar market-cap threshold, following Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft. Market capitalization changes continuously with share prices, so the exact ranking can change during a trading session.
