Alphabet owns Google and was created as Google’s parent company in 2015.
Alphabet Inc. was established in October 2015 through a corporate restructuring of Google. Under the new structure, Google became the main subsidiary, while other businesses and projects could operate as separate companies within the Alphabet group.
Google remains Alphabet’s largest and best-known business, with products including Search, YouTube, Android, and Google Cloud. Alphabet also gave experimental projects, such as life sciences and autonomous-driving work, a clearer corporate framework.
Alphabet is frequently included among the world’s richest companies by market capitalization because investors value its advertising business, cloud operations, software platforms, and research efforts. The company’s stock-market ticker is GOOGL, while a separate class of shares trades as GOOG. These are share classes of the same corporate group, not separate companies.
