Alphabet owns the Google search engine and became Google’s parent company in 2015.
Google reorganized its corporate structure in October 2015, creating Alphabet Inc. as a holding company. Google became Alphabet’s largest subsidiary, while other projects and businesses were placed under the broader parent organization.
Larry Page became Alphabet’s chief executive at the restructuring, and Sergey Brin became its president. Sundar Pichai later became Alphabet’s CEO in 2019 after previously leading Google.
Alphabet is frequently included among the world’s most valuable companies by market capitalization because of Google Search, YouTube, digital advertising, Android, and cloud services. Alphabet’s market value is not the same as Google’s standalone value, because Google is a subsidiary within the publicly traded parent company.
