Alphabet owns the Google search engine and became a public company in 2015 after a corporate restructuring.
Google reorganized under a new holding company called Alphabet Inc. in October 2015. Alphabet became the parent company, while Google remained its largest subsidiary and continued operating products such as Search, YouTube, Android, and Google Cloud.
The restructuring separated Google’s core internet businesses from several other projects, including life sciences and research ventures. Larry Page became Alphabet’s chief executive, and Sundar Pichai became Google’s chief executive at the same time.
Alphabet is frequently listed among the world’s largest companies by market capitalization because of Google’s advertising business, cloud operations, and major consumer platforms. Alphabet’s market cap is not the same as Google Search’s value alone; it represents the stock market value of the entire parent company.
