Microsoft owns LinkedIn, the professional network it acquired in 2016.
Microsoft announced the acquisition of LinkedIn in June 2016 and completed it in December of that year. The all-cash transaction valued LinkedIn at about $26.2 billion. LinkedIn continued to operate as a separate brand, with Jeff Weiner remaining chief executive after the deal before later becoming executive chairman.
LinkedIn was founded in 2003 and is used for professional profiles, recruiting, networking, job listings, and business publishing. Microsoft connected the service with products such as Dynamics 365, Office, and its broader enterprise software ecosystem. The acquisition expanded Microsoft’s presence in professional data and business relationships without replacing LinkedIn’s public identity.
