Alphabet owns Google Search and was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Alphabet Inc. became Google’s parent company in 2015 through a corporate restructuring. Google remained the main operating business, while Alphabet became the publicly traded holding company for Google and several other ventures.
Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google in 1998 while they were graduate students at Stanford University. Their search engine became famous for ranking pages partly through links between websites, using technology associated with the PageRank algorithm.
Many people still casually call the entire public company Google, but Alphabet is the legal parent and stock-market entity. Google includes Search, YouTube, Android, and advertising, while Alphabet has also owned or backed businesses such as Waymo and Verily.
