Alphabet owns Google and adopted its present corporate structure in 2015.
Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, announced the Alphabet restructuring in August 2015. Alphabet became the parent company, while Google remained the largest subsidiary and continued operating products such as Search, YouTube, and Android.
The structure separated Google’s core internet businesses from several other ventures, including long-term technology projects. It also created a clearer reporting framework for investors studying the performance of different parts of the group.
Alphabet is frequently listed among the world’s largest public companies by market capitalization. It is sometimes mistakenly called Google in market rankings, but Google is the operating subsidiary and Alphabet is the publicly traded parent company.
