Inditex is short for Industria de Diseño Textil, S.A., a Spanish multinational clothing company headquartered in Arteixo, Galicia. Zara is its best-known and largest brand, while Pull&Bear, Bershka, and Stradivarius serve different style and age segments within the group's broader retail portfolio. Other Inditex brands have included Massimo Dutti, Oysho, and Zara Home.
The group grew out of Amancio Ortega's clothing business and was formally established as Inditex in 1985. Its business model became closely associated with fast fashion: coordinated design, production, distribution, and retail systems allow stores to refresh merchandise frequently in response to customer demand.
A common mix-up is treating Zara as the parent company. Zara is a brand and subsidiary; Inditex is the corporate group that owns and operates it alongside the other labels. LVMH and Kering are also major fashion groups, but they own different collections of luxury and apparel brands.
