Saudi Aramco operates the world’s largest oil-processing facility at Abqaiq in Saudi Arabia.
Abqaiq is a major crude-oil stabilization and processing center in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. The facility removes impurities and prepares crude for transport through pipelines and export terminals. Its importance makes it one of the most strategically significant parts of Saudi Arabia’s petroleum system.
Saudi Aramco began as a partnership involving American oil companies and the Saudi government, but Saudi Arabia gradually increased its ownership until the company became fully state-owned. It remains one of the world’s most valuable publicly traded companies by market capitalization.
Abqaiq is sometimes confused with Ras Tanura, another major Saudi oil complex. Ras Tanura is especially known for its export terminal and refinery, while Abqaiq is primarily associated with oil processing and stabilization.
