The company that manufactures the PlayStation consoles is Sony.
More precisely, PlayStation is a gaming brand owned and produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Japanese Sony Group. The division was formerly called Sony Computer Entertainment and was responsible for developing, publishing, and supporting PlayStation hardware and software.
Sony entered the console business with the original PlayStation, released in Japan on December 3, 1994. The system grew from Sony’s earlier collaboration with Nintendo on a proposed CD-ROM add-on for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. When that partnership collapsed, Sony continued developing its own machine.
Sony’s PlayStation family now includes home consoles such as the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, along with portable systems and online services. A common mix-up is naming Nintendo, Sega, or Microsoft: each made competing consoles, but none manufactures the PlayStation line.
