Which company is the parent of Google and adopted its corporate name in 2015?

The story behind the answer

Alphabet is the parent of Google and adopted its corporate name in 2015.

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced Alphabet in August 2015 as a new holding-company structure. Google became Alphabet's largest subsidiary, while other businesses and projects were organized separately under the parent company.

The restructuring separated Google's core internet products—such as Search, advertising, YouTube, and Android—from longer-term ventures. Sundar Pichai became Google's chief executive, while Larry Page became Alphabet's chief executive and Sergey Brin its president at launch.

Alphabet is different from Google, although people often use “Google” to mean the whole corporate group. Alphabet's public shares trade under the ticker symbols GOOGL and GOOG, while Google remains the name of the best-known subsidiary.
