Which company is the holding company behind Warren Buffett’s investment conglomerate?

The story behind the answer

Berkshire Hathaway is the holding company behind Warren Buffett’s investment conglomerate.

Berkshire Hathaway owns operating businesses and large stakes in publicly traded companies. Its businesses have included insurance operations, rail transport, utilities, energy, manufacturing, retail, and consumer brands. Its diversified structure makes its market capitalization different from that of a single-product technology company.

Warren Buffett became Berkshire’s chairman and chief executive after buying shares in the textile company during the 1960s. He redirected the business toward insurance and investments, helping create one of the world’s best-known conglomerates.

Berkshire has two principal publicly traded share classes: Class A and Class B. Class A shares are famously expensive because each share represents much more economic and voting power than a Class B share, although both classes represent ownership in the same company.
