Apple introduced the Macintosh computer in 1984 and later became the first U.S. company valued at $1 trillion.
The Macintosh, launched on January 24, 1984, helped popularize graphical user interfaces and mouse-driven personal computing. Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs presented the machine in a famous launch event, while Steve Wozniak had designed much of the company’s earlier technical foundation.
Apple reached a $1 trillion market capitalization on August 2, 2018, during trading on the Nasdaq. Market capitalization is the value of all outstanding shares, so it differs from revenue, profit, or the value of the company’s physical assets.
Apple is often confused with Apple Records, the music label founded by the Beatles. They are separate organizations. Apple Inc. later surpassed $2 trillion and $3 trillion valuations, driven by products and services including the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and App Store.
