Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007 and became the first company to reach a $3 trillion market value.
The iPhone combined a mobile phone, music player, and internet communicator in one touchscreen device. Its launch broadened Apple’s business far beyond Macintosh computers and helped create a large services and accessories ecosystem.
Apple crossed the $1 trillion market-capitalization threshold in 2018, the $2 trillion threshold in 2020, and briefly reached $3 trillion in January 2022. It crossed that level again in June 2023, making the milestone especially notable rather than a one-day historical curiosity.
Market capitalization is calculated by multiplying a company’s share price by its shares outstanding. It is different from annual revenue, profit, or the value of all physical assets. Apple’s share count, price movements, and stock splits therefore affect how the milestone is measured.
