Nvidia, founded in 1993, became one of the world’s largest companies by market capitalization through AI-focused graphics processors.
Nvidia was established in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky and Curtis Priem. It initially focused on graphics processing units, or GPUs, which render images and video efficiently. The same parallel-processing capabilities later became valuable for training and running artificial-intelligence models.
Its market value expanded rapidly as cloud providers and technology companies bought Nvidia accelerators for data centers. Nvidia’s CUDA platform, introduced in 2006, allowed developers to use compatible GPUs for broader scientific and machine-learning workloads. The company is sometimes confused with AMD or Intel because all three compete in semiconductor markets, but Nvidia’s defining market-cap story in the 2020s centered on accelerated computing and AI infrastructure. Market capitalization reflects investor expectations about future earnings as well as current financial results.
