Microsoft, founded in 1976, is the parent of the search engine Bing.
Microsoft launched Bing in 2009 as a successor to earlier search services including Live Search. Bing provides web search, image search, video search, news, maps, and other information tools. Microsoft has also integrated artificial-intelligence features into Bing through partnerships and product development.
Microsoft itself was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen, although the company’s first year of operation is sometimes confused with 1976, when it moved to Albuquerque. The company became a major software supplier through MS-DOS and Windows before expanding into cloud computing, enterprise software, gaming, and hardware.
Microsoft’s broad portfolio has helped it rank among the world’s largest companies by market capitalization. Bing is only one part of the business and is much less financially important than Windows, Office, Azure, and other enterprise products. A market-cap ranking measures the value investors assign to the whole company, not to an individual service.
