Which company developed the original Assassin’s Creed game?

The story behind the answer

Ubisoft Montreal developed the original Assassin’s Creed game.

The Canadian studio created the title for Ubisoft, building the project around open-world cities, climbing, stealth assassinations, and historical fiction. Ubisoft Montreal had already gained major experience with the Prince of Persia franchise, and that earlier work strongly influenced Assassin’s Creed’s movement system.

The original game was directed by Patrice Désilets, with Jade Raymond serving as producer. The team designed historical locations including Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus, while adding fictional elements such as the Animus and the Assassin-Templar struggle.

Ubisoft Montreal continued developing major entries in the franchise, including Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations, and Origins. Ubisoft Quebec later led other important games, notably Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but it did not develop the original title.
