Which company developed Mario Kart World?

The story behind the answer

Nintendo EPD developed Mario Kart World.

Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development, commonly abbreviated Nintendo EPD, is the internal Nintendo division responsible for many of the company’s major first-party games. The team worked on Mario Kart World as an evolution of the series rather than as a routine numbered sequel.

Development began with prototypes for the original Nintendo Switch in 2017. The project’s designers wanted to move beyond the established circuit-based format by introducing a connected world, off-road driving, and a free-roaming mode.

The game was later moved to Nintendo Switch 2 development in 2020. The shift reflected the technical challenge of rendering an open world while supporting races with 24 drivers. Bandai Namco Studios was involved with support work, but Nintendo EPD is credited as the developer.
