Which company designed the H100 graphics processor, widely used to train large artificial-intelligence models?

The story behind the answer

Nvidia designed the H100 graphics processor, widely used for training large artificial-intelligence models.

Nvidia was founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem. The company initially focused on graphics-processing units, or GPUs, for computer games and professional visualization.

Its CUDA software platform allowed developers to use Nvidia GPUs for general-purpose parallel computing. That capability became especially valuable for machine learning, where many calculations can be performed simultaneously. The H100, based on Nvidia’s Hopper architecture, became a major data-center accelerator for AI workloads.

Nvidia is not the same type of company as TSMC. Nvidia primarily designs chips and software, while TSMC manufactures chips for customers including Nvidia. Nvidia’s market value rose sharply as investors anticipated demand for AI computing infrastructure.
