Nvidia briefly became the world’s most valuable company in June 2024.
The company’s graphics processing units, or GPUs, became central to the artificial-intelligence boom because they can perform many calculations simultaneously. Nvidia’s CUDA software platform also helped developers build applications for its hardware, creating an ecosystem beyond the chips themselves.
The H100 is one of Nvidia’s data-center GPUs designed for demanding AI and high-performance-computing workloads. Strong expectations for AI infrastructure spending drove a sharp rise in Nvidia’s share price and market capitalization.
Nvidia was founded in 1993 by Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem. Its early reputation came from computer graphics and gaming, but data-center computing later became a major growth engine.
