Apple crossed a $3 trillion market capitalization during a trading session in January 2022.
The company reached the threshold when its stock price briefly rose high enough for the value of all its outstanding shares to equal about $3 trillion. It later moved below that level before returning above it on a closing basis at a later date, illustrating how quickly market-cap records can change.
Apple’s valuation reflected investor expectations for its large hardware ecosystem and expanding services business. The company’s principal products include the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods, while services include the App Store, Apple Music, and iCloud.
A market-cap milestone does not mean Apple had $3 trillion in cash. It is an equity-market estimate based on the price investors were paying for its publicly traded shares. That distinction is a common source of confusion in company-ranking stories.
