Which company completed the world’s largest initial public offering in 2019?

The story behind the answer

Saudi Aramco completed the world’s largest initial public offering in 2019.

The Saudi Arabian Oil Company sold shares on the Saudi Stock Exchange, or Tadawul, in December 2019. The offering raised approximately $25.6 billion, and an additional share-allocation option later lifted the total to about $29.4 billion.

At its IPO price, Saudi Aramco was valued at roughly $1.7 trillion, making it one of the world’s most valuable listed companies immediately after the offering. The company remains closely linked to Saudi Arabia’s energy economy and government finances.

Alibaba Group had previously held the IPO fundraising record after its 2014 New York listing. Saudi Aramco’s offering surpassed Alibaba’s original total and became a major event in global capital markets.
