Amazon began as an online bookstore in 1994 and created Amazon Web Services.
Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 in Bellevue, Washington, originally naming the business Cadabra before choosing Amazon. The website opened in 1995 as an online bookseller, but the company soon expanded into many product categories and developed a large logistics network.
Amazon Web Services launched in 2006 and became a major cloud-computing business, providing infrastructure and software services to organizations worldwide. Amazon also operates Prime Video, Kindle, advertising services, and a large marketplace for independent sellers. The company is sometimes confused with Alibaba because both operate major online marketplaces, but Alibaba was founded in China by Jack Ma and has a different corporate history.
