Which college awarded Fred Rogers his Bachelor of Music degree?

The story behind the answer

Rollins College awarded Fred Rogers his Bachelor of Music degree.

Fred Rogers attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where he studied music and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Music degree. His musical education became a foundation for nearly every part of his later television work: he composed songs, played piano, wrote music for puppets and operas, and used simple melodies to help children understand complicated feelings.

Rogers initially enrolled at Dartmouth College before transferring to Rollins. At Rollins, he studied composition with composer Arthur H. Fiedler and met Sara Joanne Byrd, whom he later married. After graduation, Rogers began working in television and eventually developed the distinctive combination of music, puppetry, storytelling, and direct conversation that defined Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

A common mistake is identifying Dartmouth as the college that granted his music degree. Dartmouth was part of Rogers' educational path, but Rollins College awarded the Bachelor of Music. He later earned a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and became an ordained Presbyterian minister.
