Which cocktail is traditionally made with tequila, orange juice and grenadine?
Answer
Tequila Sunrise
Answer
Tequila Sunrise
The Tequila Sunrise is traditionally made with tequila, orange juice and grenadine.
Its name comes from the drink’s layered appearance: grenadine sinks through the orange juice, creating a red-to-gold gradient resembling a sunrise. The modern version is generally built directly in a tall glass over ice rather than shaken, so the color remains visible.
A different earlier drink called the Tequila Sunrise used lime juice, crème de cassis and soda water. The better-known orange-juice version was developed in California in the 1970s and gained major publicity after the Rolling Stones’ 1972 tour. The Eagles later released “Tequila Sunrise” in 1973. The drink should not be confused with a Tequila Sunset, which typically uses darker fruit juice or another red mixer and has no single universally fixed formula.
